Environment protection is a topic which has been at the forefront of societal concern since the past two decades. The need for protection and conservation of environment and sustainable use of natural resources is reflected in the constitutional framework of India and also in the international commitments of India. Realizing its importance, the Government of India has made Environment Laws and Rules to protect the environment essential for our existence.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India is the apex administrative body in the country for regulating and ensuring environmental protection and lays down the legal and regulatory framework for the same. The MoEF&CC and the pollution control boards Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution Control Boards) together form the regulatory and administrative core of the sector.

The main environmental laws, including under which various key environmental permits (or consents) are being issued in India, include the:

Any business entity including Biopharma or Medical Device company involved in commercial activities such as manufacturing need to comply with the current environmental legislation and resulting regulations of the country.
